Michael T. "Red" Barry

Age 89, of Upper St. Clair, died comfortably Thursday, February 2, 2012, in the company of family.

He was born August 25, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Son of the late Edward and Nora Joyce Barry.

Mr. Barry was a Beloved Husband of 63 years to Olga Stipetich Barry; Father of the Honorable Nora Barry Fischer (Dr. Donald Fischer), Linda "Dee" Cumpston, Margaret "Meg" Barry, Michael J. Barry (Chris), Mary Catherine "Kay" Barry (John Leathers), Amy Barry (Stephen Franckhauser), Beth Barry and Joyce Barry (Ben Bobbitt); Grandfather of Erin Fischer Acton, Lauren Schultz (Peter), Adam Barry Fischer (Laura), Maj. Meghan Cumpston, Ryan Cumpston (fianceƩ Holly Kaiser), Evan Cumpston, Anna Barry, Ellen Barry, Grace Barry, McKenna Adkins and Luke Franckhauser; Great-Grandfather of Lyla Fischer; Brother of Anna Mae Ocepek, Norene Coyne, Theresa Schall (Gregg) and the late Patrick Barry (Jeanne Pegher Barry, survives) and Margaret Barry McParland; and Best Friend of the late John Duffy.

He was a very proud graduate of Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, Class of 1940.

A proud member of "America's Greatest Generation," Mr. Barry served during World War II as a military policeman in the states, guarding German prisoners of war.

He retired as a general foreman of masonry at U.S. Steel, Homestead Works, where he worked for 42 years.

Mr. Barry was a longtime resident of McMurray and a member of St. Benedict the Abbot Church.

He was a dedicated and loving husband, traveling daily to be with his bride, Olga, at sunrise. He was a great father and was proud of having all eight of his children graduate from college, many with advanced degrees. He loved to garden in the summer, read voraciously and did crossword puzzles and handiwork year-round. He was an avid Steelers and Notre Dame fan. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him. Dr. Mally gave support to him over the years.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 724-941-3211. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, February 6, in St. Benedict the Abbot Church, McMurray. Interment in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.
