Barbara Christian Raffaele

Age 76, of Peters Township, died peacefully on December 30, 2011 after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Raffaele received her bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She worked in marketing and in journalism. She also will be remembered for her work as a community volunteer with the League of Women Voters of Washington County and the Peters Township Garden Club. An avid gardener, she earned her master gardener's certificate through Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. She was a caring friend and will be missed by many. She was the Beloved Wife of Joseph Anthony Raffaele Jr.; Mother of Patricia (Mt. Lebanon), Christine (David) (Columbus, Ohio), and Elizabeth (Peters Township); Grandmother of Mackenzie and Giavanna; Sister of Marilyn Christian and Nancy (Christian) Costanzo. Friends welcome at 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray, 724-941-3211 on Tuesday from 6 - 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. A Funeral Prayer will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Benedict the Abbot Catholic Church in McMurray at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Phipps Conservatory, Family Hospice and Palliative Care in Mt.
