William Alexander Partain

Early in the morning on Friday, November 18, 2022, William Alexander Partain, known by most as Alex, passed away. Alex, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, was 91 years old, residing in Upper Saint Clair, Pennsylvania. Born to Rufus and Catherine (McIntyre) Partain on January 27, 1931 in Chattanooga, TN. Alex graduated from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga with a bachelor of History, he went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from Taft Law School at the University of Cincinnati. It was at this time he met Martha (Plummer) Partain, they were together for over 62 years and raised their daughter Susan together. After graduation from law school, Alex began working for U.S. Steel as a tax attorney. During his 36 year career at U.S. Steel, Alex traveled to many countries to help manage corporate tax projects. He was highly respected by his colleagues and beloved by all. Following his retirement, Alex was a volunteer for at the Upper St. Clair library for many years. Alex was an avid reader, lover of history, and tennis player. He is survived by his wife, Martha Partain, his grandchildren Nathaniel and Augusta Steen, a brother, Jerry Partain of Virginia and a son-in-law, Erick Steen of Colorado. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 28th, at 11 a.m. in the St. Clair Room at Friendship Village, 1290 Boyce Road, Upper St Clair, PA. Interment will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road, Bethel Park, PA.
