Obituary for William Nicholas "Bill" Merchant

Age 94, died Monday, March 27, 2023 in Upper St. Clair.

William Nicholas Merchant, a resident of Friendship Village, Upper St. Clair, PA, was born in Boyne City, MI, May 2, 1928. He was the son of the late Wallace L. and Regina Merchant, and the brother of Leo Merchant and the late Jane Welsh. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to the late Lois T. Obermaier Merchant; father of William G. Merchant of Bridgeville, Ann (Thomas W.) McGinnis of San Diego, and Charles A. (Lisa) Merchant of Upper St Clair; father in law of Virginia L. Merchant of Irwin; grandfather of Jessica (Ed) Hunt, Will (Kelly) Merchant, Andrew (Mary) Merchant, Kathryn J. McGinnis, Thomas A. (Stephanie) McGinnis, Joseph R. Merchant, Christopher C. Merchant, and seven Great Grandchildren. Also, survived by many nieces and nephews and his loving companion Dr. Dolores Boniface.

Bill grew up in Toledo, Ohio, obtained a B.S. in accounting from the University of Detroit and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He was a Veteran serving in Europe for the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Bill had a long and successful career in finance, working with senior management for several steel companies. In retirement, he was active serving his parish of St. Thomas More, as a financial consultant for St. Thomas More Manor. He also volunteered with the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Meals on Wheels.

Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. Friends and Family are welcome at 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray, 724-941-3211, on Thursday 2-4PM & 6-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday 10AM at Resurrection Parish, St. Thomas More Church, 126 Fort Couch Road, Bethel Park, PA. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
