Obituary for Shirley Kernan (Rowe)

Shirley Rowe Kernan, born February 26, 1929 in MacDonald, PA, passed on May 24, 2020, spending her life in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. Shirley was the epitome of style and grace, and lit up every room she entered. Shirley and Jim Kernan eloped on April 28, 1947 when she was a senior in high school and were married 59 years, until Jim’s passing in 2006. Their romance was one for the ages. They loved their Pittsburgh family and friends and spent many evenings at the Living Room, The Colony, and St Clair Country Club. In the winters they would live in St Thomas, USVI, traveling with family and friends there. Shirley also travelled the world over the years, often with her sister, Jeanne. Shirley was a warm and welcoming hostess who charmed people around the world, the word most people use to describe her is “kind.” The world has lost one amazing, loved, woman. May she forever rest in peace.

Shirley is survived by children Kathleen (Barnett Bursley), Michael Kernan, Christine (Michael Burlew), Timothy (Katherine Sersich Kernan), Elizabeth (Russell Siegelman), Dennis (Kathryn Miller Kernan), and grandchildren James Bursley, Loren Burlew (Erin), James Burlew (Sarah), John Kernan (Amanda Ruby Paige), Patrick Kernan, Jacob Rowe Kernan, Maxwell Kernan Siegelman, Jacob Kernan Siegelman, Kevin Kernan and Allison Kernan.
