Obituary for Ruth Irma Marthaler (Backhaus)
On June 28, 2022, Ruth Irma Marthaler (Backhaus) got her wings and went to walk with the Angels, she was 93 years old. Ruth was a loving wife, a beautiful Mom of two, a wonderful Nanie of four and an Adoring GG to four. Ruth was born in Beaver Dam Wisconsin, July 23 ,1928 and grew up surrounded by her large family, her parents Carl and Irma Backhaus, of German background, her sisters, Delores, Helen, Marilyn and Betty, two brothers, Sonny and Junior and a Tante (German Aunt).
Ruth married her husband Harold Eugene Marthaler also from Beaver Dam, in 1956. She always said she loved her wedding, dancing to the jute box, especially Polkas and waltzes, drinking beer and having a great time! Ruth and Harold moved to Milwaukee Wisconsin, then from there moved to Toronto Canada due to Harold’s work where they lived and raised their two children. They then moved to Pittsburgh PA where they lived for 43 years. Harold passed away in 2018 where Ruth then moved into Country Meadows assisted living in Bridgeville PA until her passing.
Ruth loved gardening, with a passion for roses and especially loved her gnomes. Ruth belonged to the Stratford Garden club. She loved to cook and bake for her family, specialties being beef stroganoff, beef roast, cherry and apple pies and angel food cake. At one time in Beaver Dam, Ruth worked at the Kraft cheese factory and always said it was the best job, but the job she loved the most was taking care of her family and she did it with passion! She loved to have fun staying up to the wee hours of the morning playing parcheesi, UNO and 31 while having a few beers (and don’t forget the bag of corn curls) with her kids and Grandkids!
Ruth absolutely loved dressing up with her endless supply of clothes and clip on earrings and going out for lunch and dinners. Ruth has been on many cruises, island trips & Vegas a few times!
Ruth will be incredibly missed by her daughter Holly (Brian Jordan) of Toronto Canada, Son Peter (Susan) of Cranberry Township PA. Grandchildren, Chris (Pam Montgomery) of Toronto Canada, Jenn (Matt Webb) of Toronto Canada, Hailey Marthaler of Charleston South Carolina, Justin Marthaler of Romulus Michigan.
Adored by her Great-grandchildren Paisley, Owen, Everley and Carter. Her sister Delores, brothers Sonny and Junior, sister-in-law Marlene and nieces and nephews, plus many friends from the Country Meadows.
Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband Harold, April 22, 2018.
Ruth went by many names, Wife, Dear, Ruthie, Mom, Mamma, Mother, Nanie, GG, Schnooks, Nanieschnookumpoo, Beautiful, Friend, Cheese Girl, Miss Macy, Fashionista!

Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. Friends and Family are welcome at 2828 Washington Rd. McMurray 724-941-3211 on Thursday 11:00 A.M. until time of service at 1:00 P.M. Inurnment at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at a later date.
