Age 87, of Venetia, formerly of Squirrel Hill, peacefully passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 at his home, surrounded by family. Beloved husband of Lois (Smith) Watkins for 61 years; loving father of Richard Watkins, Michael (Karen) Watkins, Jennifer (Douglas) MacKay, and Kathryn (John) Dorsey; proud grandfather of Dylan Watkins, Alex, Ben, and Maddie MacKay, Parker and Campbell Dorsey; caring brother of the late Ruth Helwig; treasured son of the late Verner and Florence Watkins. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion, Quincey. Dick served in the U.S. Army during the Cold War, where he received special clearances in order to assist in making the atomic bomb. After the military he worked for the family business, Watkins Realty, in Squirrel Hill. He was titled as Project Manager, and retired at the age of 67. After retirement, Dick enjoyed the outdoors and traveling the world with his beloved wife. They went on many international cruises, to China, Russia, the Caribbean and Europe. Most off all, Dick enjoyed spending time with his family, especially all of his grandchildren. He will be dearly be missed by all. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday 10:30AM in St. Benedict the Abbott Church. Interment will be private at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
