Age 89, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on December 9, 2021. Peter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Jane Martin Smith; beloved children, Sheila S. DiNardo (George) and Peter J. Smith, III (Linsey) of Upper St. Clair; grandchildren, Eleanor Claire DiNardo of Dallas, Texas, Sorcha Rose Smith and Galway Harris Smith of Upper St. Clair; sister Maura McAlinney of Craughwell County Galway, Ireland; brother in law Richard J. Martin of Falls Church, VA; sister in law Barbara Martin of Daniel Island, SC and twenty seven nieces and nephews. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Peter J. Smyth and Mae Curran Smyth and brother, John Smyth of Galway, Ireland. Peter was a varsity soccer player at the University of Pittsburgh and an MFA graduate of Carnegie Mellon University. He was a published author and an adjunct faculty member of the English Department at Community College of Allegheny County for 30 years. A memorial celebration of life will be held at a later date.
