Obituary

Marilyn Rose (Steadman) Obley, wife of 64 years to Harry and mother of Lynn (John) Schrott, Matthew (Barbara) Obley, and Petra (Guy) Obley-Tomcik, passed away into glory, cared for and surrounded by her husband and children on June 1, 2020. Born June 12, 1934, to Mary and Walter Steadman, Marilyn grew up in Atlantic, PA with her older sister Donna Mae (Steadman) Sankey (deceased). The first of her family to pursue higher education, she graduated from Jamestown High School in 1952 and Westminster College in 1956 with a degree in business education. In college, she met her husband and “best friend” Harry. They married on December 27, 1956, while Harry was on leave from basic training in the Army. After teaching for a year, Marilyn sold her flute to buy a plane ticket and join her deployed husband in Orleans, France. Harry and Marilyn returned a year later and built a life and family in McMurray, Pennsylvania. A devoted Christian, Marilyn’s faith was at the center of her being. She had a true gift of hospitality, hosting literally hundreds in her home over the years for family dinners, bible studies and fellowship. Additionally, Marilyn worked with the Christian Women’s Club, mentored women in the Christian faith, and developed the first library at The Bible Chapel, where she and Harry have worshiped for nearly 50 years. Marilyn was also a skilled seamstress, sewing clothes for her family including prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses and princess dress-up outfits. She forever remains a beloved “Muga” to her grandchildren: Hope (Lee) Bolyard, Rodger, Rose, Megan, Mary, Miriam, Larkin, and coming in September, great-grandbaby Bolyard. She was also a cherished Aunt “Morie” to her nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Samaritan’s Purse (https://www.samaritanspurse.org/) or Concordia Hospice of Washington General Memorial Fund (https://secure.qgiv.com/for/conlutmin/restriction/ConcordiaHospiceofWashington). A memorial service will be held at The Bible Chapel, 300 Gallery Dr, McMurray, PA 15317, on Monday, June 8, 2020, at 11 a.m. with an hour of visitation starting at 10 a.m. at the same location. Friends and family are alternatively encouraged to view the live-streamed memorial service on Monday, June 8, 2020, at 11 a.m. using biblechapel.org/watch-live and/or to express condolences at www.beinhauer.com.
