Obituary for Lorraine Sachse (Schwartz)

Helen Lorraine Sachse, nee Schwartz, passed peacefully to the loving hands of God surrounded by family on Thursday, May 7th, just shy of her 98th birthday. Lorraine was the beloved wife for 56 years of the late Elmer Sachse. Devoted and loving mother of Janet (Karl) Reuter of Redding, Connecticut, John (Takako) Sachse of Mt. Lebanon, and Kimberly (Joseph Grimes) Sachse of Mt. Lebanon; grandmother of Alyssa and Nicole Reuter and Luke and Anna (Chase Mengle) Sachse; and great-grandmother to Layla Mengle. Also survived by sisters-in-law Mary Lou Schwartz (Tucson, Arizona) and Marjorie Kelly (Boston, Massachusetts) and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Lorraine was preceded in death by brothers John and Charles (Helene) Schwartz, sisters Eleanor (Robert) Shaffer and Ruth (Paul) Timmerman, and brother-in-law Russell Kelly. Lorraine graduated from McKeesport High School, Wooster College, and the University of Pittsburgh. The child of Charles G. Schwartz and Helen Meese Schwartz, Lorraine developed strong values, including hard work, tenacity, and integrity, from her parents and from her work at the ice cream counter of the Schwartz-family drug store in Wilmerding. Lorraine had a kind spirit, a keen mind, and a deep heart. A member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Upper St. Clair for more than 60 years, and an active participant in PEO, Lorraine treasured her summers at Chautauqua Institution. In her later years, Lorraine and Elmer moved from their family home in Upper St. Clair to Friendship Village of South Hills, where Lorraine greatly appreciated the love and attention of the hero staff members. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2040 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15241 or a charity of your choice. Services will be private. Arrangements entrusted to Beinhauer Funeral Home.
