Obituary for Joseph F. "Joe" Rauscher

Joseph F. Rauscher, age 87, of McMurray, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, May 27, 2021.

He was born on April 2, 1934, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Joseph W. and Marie (Tomasits) Rauscher.

Joe was the beloved husband for 49 years to the late Audrey (Capezzuto) Rauscher. He is survived by a son, Eric (Margaret) Rauscher; two grandchildren, Joseph and Mary; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Rauscher grew up in Mt. Oliver and attended Central Catholic High School and later moved to McMurray in the 70’s. He was known by many names such as Sonny, Moose and Buckshot, but most proud to be called Pappy!!!

Joe started his electrical business (R & J Electric) in 1953 with his business partner Roy Jacobs and worked tirelessly until retiring after age 80.

He was a past president of the Golden Triangle Water Ski Club. He put on many shows in the rivers of Pittsburgh, including waterski pyramids, doing a head stand on a saucer waterskiing and also riding a canoe paddle.

Joe was a ski instructor at Seven Springs Ski School for over 30 years into his 80’s. He also served as a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts in the 70’s and 80’s and was a member of the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow and Silver Beaver Recipient in the Allegheny Trails Council.

Joe was proud of his catholic faith. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Rauscher’s hobbies included, building and flying his own airplane, judo, remote control airplanes (charter and founding member of SPARKS), hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, boating, motorcycling, snowmobiling, skiing and awesome story telling (it was all real).

Joe’s greatest joy was spending time with his family at Deep Creek Lake and Seven Springs.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in Death by his wife, and a brother, James K. Rauscher.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray (724-941-3211). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. John XXIII Parish, St. Benedict the Abbot Church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trail Life USA Troop 1393, 236 Thomas Road, McMurray, PA 15317 where he spent many hours donating his time and energy to forward the youth movement.
