Obituary for John Alexander "Yank" Lapkowicz

John “Yank” Alexander Lapkowicz
April 5, 1942 ~ December 28, 2019 (age 77)
John Alexander Lapkowicz, of Carnegie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the age of 77.
John was born on April 5, 1942 in McKeeesport, Pennsylvania, the oldest of 2 children born to the late Anthony Lapkowicz and Mary Felegy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Linda Miller Lapkowicz, his cherished daughter Cara Lapkowicz, and beloved sister Gloria Kromke (Ron). John also leaves behind 3 stepchildren: Leslie Colaizzi (Henry), Elizabeth Frederickson (Alan), and John Walz (Kate); 10 grandchildren: Andrew Slivka, Ellise Colaizzi, Meagan White, Michael Colaizzi, Nicholas Colaizzi, Ella Frederickson, Maia Frederickson, Lydia Walz, Avery Walz and Nathan Walz; and 2 great grandchildren: Ava White and Jackson Bissett and by his cousins, nieces and nephews.
John grew up with a love of the outdoors and became an avid fisherman and hunter. He looked forward to spending time with family and friends at his beloved “Yankee Pines Camp”, the Moose, his many camping trips to Canada and wherever there was good fishing to be found! A lover of animals, boating, classical music and good red wine, John was a true friend to all he met. With his infectious sense of humor and wit, John was the life of the party and was always ready with an entertaining story to share and a funny joke to lift your spirits.
John’s 10 grandchildren were a priority in his life. He cherished them all and was a very proud Grandpa, or “Jaju” to the kids. He made every effort to be there for each of them, they could always count on Jaju, whether it was a ride to school, a pep talk when they were blue, or a good time when they were bored. He enjoyed teaching them his love of the outdoors...how to fish, how to hunt and boat, and most importantly, how to have fun.
Dancing with his wife, singing opera around the house, and making a darn good plate of spaghetti were just some of his many other talents. He is gone too soon and will be missed beyond measure but John is forever in our hearts. We are blessed with many memories to cherish always … and we all have a special “Yank” moment that makes us smile.
