Obituary for Jean Ann Gerrero

Age 85, of Carnegie, on Monday May 2, 2022. She was a daughter of the late Frank and Ann (Mascellino) Gerrero. Jean was the loving mother of Rachael Parr of South Carolina, Johnny (Jeannette) Behrens of Eighty Four, PA and Krista (Steve) of Georgia; dear sister of Carol (Gerrero) Stonestreet Smoot of Pleasant Hills, PA and Faustin Gerrero of Rising Star, Texas; cherished grandmother of Robert (Kim) Parr and Charlie (Angel) Parr; cherished great-grandmother of Lily and Easton; aunt of Jon (Bridgit) Stonestreet of Eighty Four, PA and Scott (Beth) Stonestreet of Virginia; great-aunt of Sterling and Kinsley Stonestreet; and also survived by many cousins.

Jean was a trailblazer! She inspired the next generation of her family with her unique and adventurous spirit. She was a skilled rifleman, and member of the civil air patrol; she loved to fly. Jean was known for her creativity. She was an amateur photographer of Clydesdale horses and studied interior design in Florida.

She was a voracious reader on topics ranging from the Roman Empire to gardening. Italy was more than a fascination for her, she felt her roots there and she ventured off to the Old Country to connect with distant relatives in Collesano, Sicily. Jean enjoyed DIY projects before they were ever called as such. She was compassionate, she loved the underdog and she was a loyal friend.

Jean made her mark - a social advocate at the core, there may still be a stoplight called “Jean’s stop light” commemorating the hard work she did with city council in Walnut Creek, California to ensured safety for the neighborhood children.

Jean guaranteed that the Gerrero’s and Mascellino’s have a brick at Ellis Island, forever commemorating the passage our beloved ancestors made.

She loved her family and family life and was an avid animal lover. Sitting down to a meal was essential. Her children love to cook and break bread as a result.
