My mother was beyond extraordinary. She became a young and beautiful mother of four and had as much fun as we did growing up. She had an exciting young life singing with the Sharkey sisters in their father’s band, was a majorette and actually rode horses down Brownsville Road to South Park. She graduated early and regretted being too young to become a Nurse Cadet in World War II. She was in downtown Pittsburgh during the flood of 1937 and VE Day.
She later worked in the Canonsburg Borough and helped organize the first union for office workers there. She was a Teamster! She was smart, well-read and could do 3 crosswords a day. She was the nice lady in the corner house whose side porch welcomed her and our friends.
She was loved by many and showed by example how to live life fully.

This just breaks my heart. She has held a special place in my heart and in my life for more years than I can count. What a kind, funny, and loving woman. Chris, Tom, and the rest of the family, please accept my sincere condolences. I truly loved your Mom.

I am so sorry to hear of Jean’s passing. I remember her with a smile on my face. We shared many conversations together on my trips home from college. Though I was just a young college kid then, we always had a lot to talk and laugh about. Jamie was spot on, when she says she was always smiling. She was always so nice to me when I would come bother her and Joyce at the office. I would like to express my sincere sympathy to her family.
