Obituary for James Earl "Jim" Cabe Jr.

James Earl Cabe, Jr. 76 of McMurray, PA formerly of Fairdale, WV passed from this world to his heavenly home on March 15, 2021, at his home surrounded by love and family.

He was born December 31, 1944 in Fort Benning, GA to loving parents James and Christine Cabe who proceeded him in death. In addition to his parents, he was also proceeded in death by the love of his life Pamela (Milam) Cabe.

He was fondly known as “Jim”, a hardworking, generous and humble man. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1962. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army, Co. D, 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry during the Vietnam War, as a radio-telephone operator. For his display of courageous initiative, determination, devotion to duty, and personal bravery during combat he was awarded the Bronze Star with “V” device, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with “V” device, Purple Heart and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

After returning from Vietnam, he attended West Virginia University and remained a lifetime Mountaineer. He enjoyed returning to Morgantown as a football season ticket holder and was forever loyal to the “Blue and Gold”. Following college, he married Pam and they settled in Fairdale, WV. Here they started a family and he began a thirty-one-year career as a master electrician in the coal mines, followed by 13 years as a federal mine inspector before he retired.

He is survived by his children Jimmy Cabe and his fiancé Vicki Gamble of Carnegie, PA; Danette Cabe-Croaston of Beckley, WV; Dr. Amy Cabe Wateska and her husband Dr. Joseph Wateska of McMurray, PA. Also survived by 5 beloved grandchildren Kailey, Joey, Pamela, Carter and Carson; 2 great-granddaughters Westlynn and Rhea James; two brothers Charles Cabe of Port Sunlight, UK and Jerry Cabe of Cincinnati, OH. He was a member of the Christian faith, Moose Lodge 1606, Beckley, WV and VFW Post 764, McMurray, PA.

After retiring he moved to McMurray, PA and dedicated himself to being a champion Paw-paw. He was deeply loved and adored by his children and grandchildren. An active “PaPa” who was involved in their daily lives. He got as much joy from them as they did him. He spent many weekends at Seven Springs fishing and playing cards. Aside from an avid fisherman, coin enthusiast, train collector, he was also an accomplished gardener.

A service of remembrance and honor will be officiated by Pastor Justin Driscoll at 12:00 pm, Monday March 22 at Beinhauer Funeral Home 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, PA. Following the service, he will be buried with full military honors at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. PA. At which time he and the remains of his beloved wife D. Pamela Cabe will be buried together. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
