Obituary for Harold Carey "Mike" Underwood
Harold “Mike” Underwood, 88, of Nokomis, FL, formerly of Mt. Lebanon, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 17, 2022.
He was born December 19, 1933, in Richeyville, PA, a son of the late Dr. Harold and Sara (Dowler) Underwood.
Mike was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and a former president of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
Mike’s professional career spanned 32 years working at Merck Pharmaceutical Company. After many dedicated years of service, he retired in 1996 as an Executive Sales Representative.
His retirement resume included competitive golfing where he was a “Force to be reckoned with”. Mike was also a boating enthusiast and an avid fly fisherman, something he enjoyed doing with his grandson. He spent his spare time doing the things that he loved, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family on Deep Creek Lake.
Mike was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary (Johnson). He was the cherished father of Sarah (Jim) Strain and Michael (Patty) Underwood; adored grandfather of Lindsay, Mary Ashley, Rachel, Jordan and Garrett and five great-grandchildren; and loving “Big Brother” of Mary Lou (the late James) English of Cumming, GA.
A gathering to celebrate his life will be held Friday from 4-6 p.m. at Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray (724-941-3211).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Garrett County or Anova Hospice.
