I grew up with Jerry as he was one of my older brothers. In my younger years, I was a big pain to both of my older brothers! Jerry had to babysit his younger sister when he arrived home from high school, and he had to rescue me from a possible drowning in Lake Wisconsin. I'm sure he had second thoughts about that. I attended the ceremony when he was awarded his Eagle Scout rank. Jerry and my parents were so proud while his little sister had no clue as to what it was all about. Little did I know. I remember the first time he wore his uniform from the US Navy and how he showed us the exact way in which to shape and wear the Navy hat. The photo has long since disappeared, but he even let me take his picture in uniform out in our front yard by a newly planted tree.
He went away to the University of Wisconsin and came back home a journalist. Any time he came home, there were stories and
laughter. His genial personality endeared him to many. Eventually he left home and moved to California where he met the young woman he was to marry. I really missed him, but I now had a sister-in-law, a niece and two nephews. I still have that same sister-in-law, niece, nephews and their families. Jerry is not with us physically anymore, but he's in our hearts and always part of our
memories. I will always cherish those memories. My love to Carol, Ann, David, Eric and their families. "Aunt" Jane, Mike and the bike.

On behalf of son Bernie and myself, I extend sympathy to Carol and the Cornell family. Jerry's obituary was recently publish in the Mesabi Tribune and I was saddened to read it. We have fond memories of our days as neighbors on Crane Lake. We remember so very well the time, effort and endless hours of work you accomplished to achieve your lovely cabin in East Bay. Remembering warmly. Most sincerely, Jan Carey, Hibbing, MN
