Obituary for Edward Herman Oehmler Jr.

Edward H. Oehmler 94 of Bethel Park passed away peacefully at Townview Rehab on October 3, 2022. Ed was born and raised in Bellevue, Pittsburgh PA on September 3, 1928. Ed met the love of his life, Joyce, at Bethany College in WV where Ed was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. In 1952, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War. Ed also worked at the Pentagon for the Chief of Naval Operations and served on the U.S.S. Benham. After Ed’s Military service, Ed and Joyce moved to Pittsburgh where they live for nearly 20 years. Ed worked for the Gimbels Company, as a Merchandise Manager. In the early 70’s, Ed and Joyce moved for a short stay in Brielle NJ, before landing in Toms River NJ. Ed owned and worked at the Ace Hardware Store, at the Ocean County Mall, for the next 12 years. Ed went on to become a successful Real Estate Agent in Toms River, earning Realtor Associate of the Year honors in 2002. Ed was active in Rotary, becoming Rotary President. Ed was also a charter member of Habitat for Humanity in Toms River. In 2001, Ed and Joyce moved to Toms River Greenbriar Woodlands Community. Ed and Joyce spent 8 wonderful years their enjoying activities such as playing Bridge, Bocce, and shuffleboard, before Joyce’s passing in 2008. While living in NJ, Ed enjoyed golfing and going to the beach with his Son Ed, Ed’s wife Kuei Ching, and his Grandson Ed. In 2014, Ed moved back to Pittsburgh where he lived for the next 8+ years with his daughter Mary, Mary’s husband Tom, Ed’s Grandsons Cole & Clay, and his beloved pups Sparky, Georgia, and Harley. Ed was pre-deceased by his wife Joyce and his daughter Patricia. Ed is survived by his Son Edward III and Wife Kuei Ching of Toms River NJ, Ed’s daughter Mary McCloskey and Husband Tom of Bethel Park, PA.; along with 3 Grandchildren, Edward Oehmler IV, Clayton McCloskey and Wife Christine, and Colton McCloskey. Along with Ed’s brother, Richard Oehmler. Arrangements by BEINHAUER. Ed will be entombed at Queen of Heaven Cemetery alongside his wife Joyce. In lieu of flowers, donations to Habitat for Humanity (https://www.habitat.org/) or Samaritan’s Purse (https://www.samaritanspurse.org/) in Ed’s name would be appreciated.
