Obituary for Earl Erwin Minerd

Earl Erwin Minerd Born in Youngwood, PA August 31, 1925 but most recently of Lawrence PA died peacefully Thursday morning December 3, 2020, in his sleep, surrounded by his family. Mr. Minerd was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Venetta and sons Mark Ernest and Gary Earl Minerd; brother Milton Ernest Minerd, sister Charlotte Dunham sister in law, Betty Jean Dillow. Earl is survived by his son Jeffrey Minerd and wife Lynn, five grandsons, Mark Minerd and wife Maria, Matthew Minerd and wife Kelsey, Michael Minerd and wife Lindsay, Mitchell Minerd and wife, Lara, Morgan Minerd and wife Aimee, great grandchildren Sienna, Ava, Vivienne, Micah, Pacey, Sadie, Price, Owen, Maela, Sloane, Sophia and Pierson; all from Upper St. Clair PA….as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and their children that make up the family that mattered most to Earl. Mr. Minerd was a decorated Sea Bee in the 57th and 82nd battalions in the US Navy attached to the first Marine Division during the invasion of Okinawa and also served elsewhere in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He had an exemplary 40 year career in the insurance industry in Cleveland Ohio and Pittsburgh PA. He was a Mason and also belonged to the Tall Cedars, Shriners and Scottish Rite. He played the trumpet in their respective bands/orchestras. He directed the Westmoreland County Esquires and Youngwood Lancers Drum and Bugle Corp. He was selected to play in a delegation sent to Red China in the early 1990’s He was a lifelong member of the Youngwood VFD and was a trustee of the Youngwood VFW. He was a member of the Mountain Boat Club for over 50 years. He was an avid sports fan of all professional, college, high school and youth sports. He especially supported any sports in which his sons, grandsons or great grandchildren participated. Mr. Minerd was raised in a Christian home by Christian parents in the United Brethren Church. He served on many church boards over the years. He is now a member of Faith Chapel in Lawrence PA. Earl loved nothing more than just being in the midst of his family watching his grandsons and later his great grandchildren play. His sense of humor often got him into trouble and will live on through his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all that knew him.

Due to the current pandemic, the family has decided to hold a Memorial Service at a later date at Faith Chapel, in Lawrence PA.
