Obituary for Donley W. Strope
Major Donley W. Strope, U.S. Army, Retired, 76, passed away surrounded by loved ones on March 6, 2023 at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. His battle with a serious acute illness over several months exemplified his courage, determination and dignity.
Donley graduated from Waynesburg High School and Homestead Hospital School of Nursing where he earned a Registered Nursing degree and met the love of his life, Joanne. The two married and had one son, Paul Bryan Strope, and spent 54 wonderful years together.
Donley had a distinguished career in the Army, serving on numerous bases throughout the U.S. and Europe. After retiring from the Army, Donley continued his nursing career at Mayview State Hospital and UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital.
He was a talented musician and songwriter. Donley was entertaining in all respects - he had a delightful sense of humor and a gift for storytelling. His passion for reading and enthusiasm for learning knew no bounds. He was a self-taught expert in so many areas - computers and coding, gardening, photography - to name a few.
But his greatest legacy in life was that of husband, father and Pap Pap. He deeply loved and supported his family. Whether it was cheering his son on at his basketball game or watching his granddaughter cheer - he was there for it all. To him, family meant everything.
Donley was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and George and brother Wayne. He is survived by his wife, Joanne, his son Paul Bryan (Sharon) and his granddaughter, Samantha. He is also survived by two brothers, John and Larry (Marianne), a sister, Nancy Strope, and a sister-in-law, Carole Protz, as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral Arrangements by BEINHAUERS. Friends and Family are welcome at 2828 Washington Rd, McMurray, 724-941-3211, on Sunday, March 12th, 11am-1pm, where a Blessing Service will be held at 1pm. Interment will be private.
