Obituary for Catherine B. "Kay" McDevitt (Hack)

Catherine (Kay) McDevitt, nee Hack, originally of Philadelphia 87, passed peacefully on June 15, 2022 in Pittsburgh. Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Katherine Hack, and her husband of more than 50 years, Francis (Bud) McDevitt. She is survived by her children, Marianne Galfano (Victor), Eileen Guerry (David d.), Jacqueline Smith (John), Frank McDevitt ( Kimberly Miller, Fiancee), Kay Frances Sanders (Robert); 10 fine accomplished grandchildren: Caroline Smith, Caitlin Acheson (Jon), Sara Guerry(Keegan), Eileen Smith Demidovich(Alex), Mark Guerry (Alaina), Alexander McDevitt Smith (Richelle),Jacqueline D. Guerry, Genevieve Galfano, Kathryn Sanders (Simon), Sean Sanders; Three Great Grandchildren and two greats on the way. Kay had a career in her avocations, she was a Girl Scout Leader, Softball Coach, golfer, and tennis player. She Brailled books for the blind and taught others to do the same. She was an artist in needlework and painting, and taught others that too. She was a Eucharistic Minister and a bereavement support through the Marthas at St. Thomas More Church. She drove for Meals on Wheels deliveries even while using a portable oxygen machine. She played competitive Scrabble, dominoes, and Canasta and was the driver for her Ladies Day Out group. She started College for the first time at age 70 and achieved her associate degree before transferring to a four-year institution, where she majored in art, until her health made it too difficult to continue. While in her associate degree, she had classes with her daughter-in-law’s nephew and while in her junior year was in school with her grandson. She loved to travel and explore new cultures. Kay lived her life to the fullest with a wondering mind and a welcoming spirit. She was loved and she will be missed. Terribly.

Arrangements by BEINHAUER. Friends received Sunday from 1:00-3:00p and 5:00-7:00p at 2828 Washington Road, McMurray. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at Resurrection Parish, St Thomas More Church. Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
