Age 94, of Pittsburgh, originally of Scranton, passed away peacefully in the care of her family Jan. 13, 2021. Catherine was the beloved daughter of Edward A. and Anna B. Gaughan and sister of Gerard, Walter and Ann, all of whom preceded her in death. She was a member and the last survivor of the St. Paul's High School Class of 1944. Catherine was the wife and widow of Joseph F. McDonough and then of Thomas F. ("Toby") Joyce, both of Scranton. Her life was centered upon and enriched by her marriages, 10 children, 28 grandchildren, a multitude of great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She traveled widely, on bus trips, cruises or to watch Notre Dame play football. It would be absolutely accurate to say that she loved and was grateful for all of her family and friends, but perhaps her most admirable attribute was that she was grateful for pretty much everything that happened in her life. Her quiet faith and sunny disposition made her a favorite of her family and all who crossed her path. She will be laid to rest in Scranton after a private Mass of Christian Burial.
