Obituary for Carol Ann Maggio (Baird)

Carol Ann Maggio

It is with heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our beautiful and loving Carol Ann Maggio (Baird), age 76. Carol, “Mimi,” passed away on December 28, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She left behind her husband of 54 years, Anthony; her two daughters, Lori (Di) and Tina; her two grandchildren, Aiden and Samantha; her brother Rich (Sonya); in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends and grand fur children. Carol was a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and only recently transplanted to Fredericksburg, Virginia, with her husband to be closer to their grandchildren.

Carol exuded a special kindness and thoughtfulness to every person that crossed her path. Her deepest passion was her family, and she demonstrated that with all the time, attention, love, and respect with which she showered each and every one of them. Her quiet demeanor and gracious ways provided a guiding light and outstretched hand that offered a special level of support and encouragement no matter if you were right next to her or miles away.

Carol was a true teacher of life to all who knew her. This comment, of course, would surprise her, but it was through her subtle ways of living that taught others to find value in themselves, in family, and in life. She lived life to the fullest in beauty, kindness, strength, resilience, and goodness. Her kids and grandkids called her “Wonder Woman” because of the admiration of all she accomplished, endured, and demonstrated. As Mom and Mimi, she provided a beacon of inspiration to her family, instilling confidence and independence to reach for the stars.

Carol grew up on Mt. Washington and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Duquesne University, where she met “Tone,” as she lovingly called him for more than five decades. She worked in Human Resources at Macy’s in South Hills Village Mall for over 20 years.

George Sand (pseudonym for Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin) said, “There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved.” With these words, our lovely Carol (Mom, Ma, Mama, Mum, Mimi) achieved the fullest life possible because she just simply, undoubtedly, and unconditionally loved—and beyond words was loved in return.
