Bernard “Bernie” Jakicic, 79, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, after a lengthy battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The son of the late Frank and Marie (Sikon) Jakicic, he was born July 26, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA.
Bernie is survived by his beloved wife of 12 years, Barbara (Carlson); loving father of Sharon (Jason) Schmid, Marcy (Michael) Butterfield of Indiana, and Tim (Julie) Jakicic of Colorado; proud grandfather of Hannah, Nathaniel, Ava, and Addison; preceded in death by his first wife of 35 years, Nancy (Burke), as well as his brother Gerald and his brother’s wife Jean.
Growing up in the South Side of Pittsburgh, Bernie graduated from St. Adalbert High School, Class of 1961. Post-graduation he served with the U.S. Army, stationed at multiple locations including Fort Jackson and Schofield Barracks. After his service, Bernie worked over 40 years in industrial furnace design, production and sales for the steel and heat treatment industries. Bernie was a member of the VFW Post No. 764 of McMurray, an avid golfer, and devoted Pittsburgh Penguins fan.
Family and friends are welcome on Sunday December 18th from 1-3pm and 5-7pm at Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray, PA (724-941-3211). Final Goodbye to be held at 9am on Monday December 19th at Beinhauer, immediately followed at 10am with Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Patrick Church, 317 W Pike St., Canonsburg, PA.
