Obituary for Alexis de Poutiloff

Alexis de Poutiloff, age 94, of Pittsburgh, PA died at Paramount Senior Living on Memorial Day, May 25, 2020. Son of Jean and Helene de Poutiloff, Alex was born in Paris, France and grew up in Fontainebleu during WWII, participating in the French resistance during the German occupation. Upon emigrating to the United States with his family after the war around 1953, Alex earned his M.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh where he met his future wife Sarah, with whom he raised four sons (John, Peter, Daniel, and Robert). Alex had a long career with Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Company on Neville Island designing cryogenic liquid natural gas (LNG) storage tanks which are installed worldwide and for which he earned multiple design innovation awards. Alex had many interests including model railroads, RC airplanes, personal computing, and building a second home at Indian Lake, PA where he ultimately retired. He found happiness a second time with Pamela Fagan, who also preceded him in death in 2017. Alex is survived by his sons John (Mary Beth), Peter (Carol), and Robert (Joanne) de Poutiloff and four grandchildren Sam, AJ, Jon, and Lily. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. Friends and Family are welcome at 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray on Saturday 9AM until time of funeral service at 11AM. Interment to follow at Jefferson Memorial Park. All guests will be required to wear a mask or facial covering and our staff will monitor attendance to ensure gathering restrictions and everyone's safety.
