Obituary for Agnes R. "Aggie" Wagner (Randall)

Agnes R. “Aggie” Wagner
Aggie Wagner passed away peacefully on May 28, 2021. Beloved wife of the late Walter R. (Dick) Wagner; loving mother of Susan (Jeff) Mazur, Richard L. Wagner, Karen W. (Thomas) Andrews, John R. (Pam) Wagner and Barb (Cathy) Wagner; proud grandmother of Alan (Erin Thorp) Mazur, Brian (Megan) Mazur, Steven C. (Emily) Wagner, Beth (Justin) Hall, Bill (Victoria Salegna) Andrews, Chrissy (John Hawkins) Andrews, Molly (Eric) Fruits, Sean G. (Amanda) Wagner, Brett G. Wagner and Ryan G. Wagner; cherished great-grandmother of James, Paul and Miriam Mazur, Baylee and Benjamin Wagner, Henry Hall, Audrey Fruits and Cameron and Ellie Wagner. Aggie is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Aggie was born in Philadelphia on November 3, 1928 to Agnes G. (Kelley) and Auburn G. Randall. She played high school basketball at the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur and graduated from West Chester State Teachers College in 1950. She met her husband on a blind date in college and they married in 1952. Aggie and Dick moved to Pittsburgh in 1956 and raised five children.

Aggie taught third grade at St. Louise de Marillac School for over 30 years and won the prestigious Golden Apple award for excellence in teaching in 1995. She was beloved by students, parents and fellow teachers and will be remembered as being full of love and joy. Years after she’d retired, former students approached her in stores and parking lots with cries of “Mrs. Wagner! Mrs. Wagner!”

Even after a sudden heart attack took her precious husband in his early 40’s, Aggie relied on her strong Catholic faith and maintained her optimism and love for life. She was a great role model who provided unlimited love to her children. Her home was always full of singing and laughter. She had lots of friends, because she was such fun to be around, was always a good listener, and never passed judgement on others.

Aggie’s favorite place was the beach, especially Ocean City, NJ, where she spent her childhood summers. She loved just being near the beach, hearing the waves.

In retirement, Aggie was a faithful volunteer for several organizations. Her Bingo games and sing-alongs were big hits with her fellow seniors.

During her long battle with Alzheimer’s, Aggie remained her warm, friendly, cheery self. Her spirit of kindness and hope will remain with all of those who knew and loved her.

She will be dearly missed by all.
