Caregiver Excellence Award Winner – May 2018

She was presented her award by Katie Brandt, Beinhauer’s Community Outreach Director.

The BEINHAUER CAREGIVER EXCELLENCE AWARD for May was presented to Karen Miyares, a retired clinical social worker, and current Hospice and Palliative Care  volunteer at Family Hospice.

Karen has made a big impact, because she has brought her therapeutic skills to help many who are coping with the loss of a loved one. It is a very difficult and solitary journey that you go through when you lose someone that means the world to you, but Karen is always willing to walk this difficult journey with each the bereaved whom she meets.

Also present was Family Hospice Volunteer Coordinator Nick Petti.

Currently, she runs two bereavement support groups for Family Hospice, and is in the process of starting a third. All these groups are open to anyone who has had a loss. Neither rain, sleet or snow could keep Karen from providing this valuable service. She is also helping with Family Hospice’s Camp Healing Heart, which is a day camp for children between the ages of 6-12 who have lost a loved one. Karen has a huge heart, and Family Hospice is grateful for all her great work.
